HSNNE in Action

By our actions, we bear witness and show our commitment to our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Here are some illustrations:

September 30, 2005: International Day of Solidarity with Haiti

September 30th is the anniversary of the coup of President Aristide which took place in 1991. On that day, over twenty concerned citizens in solidarity with their Haitian sisters and brothers gathered outside the US Federal Building in the heart of Newark, NJ on September 30, 2005. Linking themselves with thousands in fourteen countries and over 30 US cities, they celebrated the International Day of Solidarity with the Haitian People.

The HSNNE sponsored CALL TO ACTION featured marchers with signs calling for an end to the repression, imprisonments, and widespread human rights violations now being perpetrated against Haiti's poor.

Guy Antoine, the webmaster of WindowsonHaiti.com, spoke a clear and passionate message, calling for the freedom of political prisoners, as well as for justice to be administered to those known criminals who are currently at large, enjoying impunity.

HSNNE President Georgette Delinois, Board member Father Eugene Squeo, and founding President Father Jack Martin also spoke, urging the gathered crowd to ever continue their practical solidarity with Haiti's embattled populace. The session was emceed by Sister Kay Coll, coordinator of the HSNNE office.

Police and Homeland Security ICE personnel also looked on with a trained dog, and they found the demonstrators non-violent and law-abiding.

It was announced that the film, Aristide the Continuing Revolution will be shown at the regular HSNNE monthly meeting on November 8th (Election Day), 2005, (7:30 PM at St.Joseph's Social Service Center, 118 Division Street, Elizabeth 07201). All are welcome to view this powerful documentary.
